Christchurch City Council is to launch a public consultation on whether to proceed with the construction of a new 30,000-seat stadium after the latest cost estimate revealed the project is running significantly over budget.
The council said the final design submission from lead contractor BESIX Watpac now estimates the cost of the build at NZ$683m ($444.3m/€414.4m); the estimate is NZ$200m more than the original NZ$483m budget.
