China says it has hit 300m winter sports participation target

China has realised its goal of engaging 300m people in winter sports ahead of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, according to a report from its National Bureau of Statistics.

According to the report, more than 346m Chinese people participated in snow and ice sports since the awarding of the Games to Beijing in 2015. A total of 82m (37 per cent) are reported to be aged between 18 and 30, raising hopes for a lasting Winter Olympic legacy in the country.
