China plans to build 18 ‘football cities’ in less than five years

China is hoping to establish up to 18 “key cities” focused on football by 2025 as it bids to become a sporting powerhouse by 2035.

A newly-published policy document from the Chinese government’s General Administration of Sport said it plans to build between 16 and 18 “football cities” in less than five years, with each city containing at least two professional clubs.
