Chinese officials have poured cold water on reports last week that the cities of Chengdu and Chongqing were lining up a bid for the 2032 edition of the summer Olympic Games.
The South China Morning Post reported that former Chinese Olympic Committee secretary general Wei Jizhong said the plan was "only an idea" and noted that officials may be reluctant to make a bid so close to Beijing hosting the Winter Olympics in 2022.
