CAS rejects Olympic doping appeals from Russian athletes

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed appeals from Russian athletes Tatyana Lebedeva and Maria Abakumova against International Olympic Committee (IOC) rulings stripping them of medals from the 2008 summer Olympic Games for doping infractions.

The IOC disqualified the pair, along with Russian compatriot Ekaterina Gnidenko, in sanctions issued in December 2016 and January 2017. Lebedeva (pictured) won silver medals in the long jump and triple jump at Beijing 2008, while Abakumova won silver in the javelin. Gnidenko finished eighth in Keirin track cycling at London 2012 but also joined the appeal process to CAS.
