France will make its Red Bull Air Race World Championship debut in 2018 after the city of Cannes was added to next season’s calendar.
Cannes will host its maiden event on April 21-22 next year. The 2018 calendar will feature eight races, although only five host destinations have been confirmed so far.
The season gets underway in Abu Dhabi on February 2-3 before Cannes plays host in April. A to-be-confirmed European destination will then host on May 26-27, with the Hungarian capital of Budapest returning to host on June 23-24. A destination for the Air Race’s first Asian event of the season, on August 4-5, is yet to be announced.
The season continues with events in the Russian city of Kazan on August 25-26, with Indianapolis in the US to host on October 6-7. The season concludes next November with an event in Asia, with a destination to be confirmed. Air Race organisers said this will be the first time its season-closing event will be held in Asia.
Hosts that have not been included from this season’s schedule on the provisional calendar for 2018 are San Diego (USA), Makuhari (Japan), Porto (Portugal) and Klettwitz (Germany).
