The CAA Sports division of Creative Artists Agency has expanded its presence in the talent representation market by acquiring Los Angeles-based firm Kauffman Sports Management Group (KSMG).

KSMG is a full-service sports management agency focused on the representation of front office executives in North American basketball league the NBA, as well as NBA and NCAA college basketball coaches.

The Los Angeles Times newspaper said that through the deal, Spencer Breecker, Kauffman’s managing partner, will become CAA Sports’ head of basketball coaches and executives division. His clients include Michael Malone, head coach of the Denver Nuggets, and Steve Clifford, head coach of the Orlando Magic.

Steve Kauffman, president of Kauffman Sports, will take on an advisory role at CAA Sports. The agreement means CAA Sports now represents nine NBA head coaches, along with other executives and college coaches.

The KSMG deal comes after CAA Sports in July acquired London-headquartered Base Soccer Agency. The deal was an effective 100-per-cent acquisition, giving CAA Sports complete control.

The Base takeover added to the agency’s longstanding football talent partnership with Polaris Sports, Gestifute’s commercial arm, in which CAA Sports jointly represents the marketing rights for players and coaches, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Jose Mourinho, James Rodríguez, Bernardo Silva, João Félix, Dele Alli, and Renato Sanches.

In November, US-based sports industry veteran Paul Danforth was named president of CAA Sports.
