Bundesliga attendance reigns supreme despite decrease

Overall attendances for the first and second division fell by 0.34 per cent on 2008-09, meaning 17.43 million people attended the 612 games last season.

The top flight had an average attendance of 41,802 fans in 2009-10, slightly less than the previous season of 41,904. Cumulative attendances across the season represented a total 12.79 million fans over 306 games.

Average attendance for the second-tier Bundesliga 2 was also lower – just under 15,000 last season against 15,550 in 2008-09.

The league blamed the slight decreases on a long winter cold spell, stadium renovations in Stuttgart and Bremen and the economic downturn.
