Women’s WorldTour outfit Boels-Dolmans Cycling Team will be seeking a new title sponsor after the 2020 season after equipment rental company Boels Rental and Dolmans Landscaping Group opted to end their backing of the team.
Dolmans began sponsoring the team in 2010, when the Dutch outfit was known as Dolmans Landscaping Team. Boels Rental came on board as a co-title sponsor in 2012 and the team has been known as Boels-Dolmans ever since.
Boels-Dolmans is the most successful women’s cycling team and is seeking a fifth world title in a row on Sunday at the UCI Road World Championships in Yorkshire.
The team said in a statement that it is “feeling confident” as it starts the search for new title sponsors. “Our target is to not only retain our status as the number one women’s cycling team in the world, but also to help further develop the sport of women’s cycling,” the team added.
“As of 2021 we want to expand our team from 16 to 18 cyclists in order to be able to compete in a double programme and to give more young cyclists a chance. In addition, we want to give more focus to the woman behind the athlete in the future and also to community projects.”
Team director Danny Stam added to the Cycling News website: “If you go for a small budget you are going back, we want to go forward not back. So we are ready for the next step now. All respect to Boels and Dolmans, but it was always the Dutch team. I think we need to think about an international team. We want to make steps. If you want to make steps, you need to go bigger.”
