Belgian, Indonesian football bodies sign data partnerships

The Belgian Football Association (URBSFA/KBVB) and Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) have agreed new data-based partnerships with SciSports and Genius Sports, respectively.

The URBSFA/KBVB’s deal with the Dutch company is initially scheduled to run through the 2018 Fifa World Cup.

SciSports will aid preparations for the national team’s campaign in Russia, where it has been drawn in Group G alongside England, Panama and Tunisia.

Giels Brouwer, chief executive of SciSports, said: “At times when I talk about the absence of the Dutch national team in Russia I am sad, but it makes me all the more proud that we are still on the highest stage of world football. 

“We have been working with Belgian clubs for a long time so it is a great next step for us to support the Belgian federation as well.”

Meanwhile, the PSSI has selected Genius Sports to drive its digital transformation and revolutionise its use of real-time data. As its official data partner, the PSSI will benefit from Genius Sports’ Football Data Platform, which combines live data capture and real-time distribution services to enhance efficiencies, grow new revenue streams and provide a cutting-edge digital experience to fans. 

The PSSI has also granted Genius Sports the exclusive rights to collect, manage, distribute and commercialise its official data worldwide.

For the first time, fans of the PSSI’s club competitions, including Liga 1 and the FA Cup, will be able to engage with real-time statistics before, during and after every game, as well as data-driven content via a fully hosted mobile app and an automated social media publishing service.

Joko Driyono, acting chairman of the PSSI, said: “With their experience and capabilities, we truly believe this partnership will accelerate our development of Indonesian football. We will do our utmost to ensure significant improvements across all areas and recognise that data management plays a crucial role in our development, not only from a technical side but also in our commercial acquisition strategy.”
