New Zealand pay-television broadcaster Sky Sport has acquired title sponsorship rights to the country’s women’s basketball team.

As part of the agreement with Basketball New Zealand, the team will officially be known as the Sky Sport Tall Ferns.

Sky Sport’s logo will also appear on the front of the team’s kit during games.

Iain Potter, chief executive of Basketball New Zealand: “This is a massive moment for the Tall Ferns – it has been many years since the Tall Ferns have had a naming sponsor.

“This backing from Sky Sport not only shows their devotion to helping New Zealand sport, but also that New Zealand women’s basketball is gaining momentum and Sky recognises Kiwis’ growing love of the game.”

The Tall Ferns are currently playing in the International Basketball Federation’s (Fiba) Women’s Asia Cup in Bengaluru, India.

Sky Sport also title sponsors the New Zealand Breakers, the Auckland-based men’s team which competes in Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL).

The broadcaster signed a six-year deal with the newly-named Sky Sport Breakers in June. The deal also provides Sky Sport with brand exposure on the team’s kit and naming rights to its training facility.

Last month, Sky also acquired naming rights to Westpac Stadium in Wellington under a six-year deal, effective from January 1. The venue will be officially rebranded as Sky Stadium.
