The Basketball Africa League will stage its second season in multiple countries in the continent in 2022, including Senegal, Egypt and Rwanda.The campaign will include 15 games at the Dakar Arena in Dakar from March 5-15, followed by 15 games at Hassan Mostafa Indoor Sports Complex in Cairo from April 9-19, and an eight-game playoffs and finals at Kigali Arena in Kigali from May 21-28.
The BAL will once again feature the top 12 club teams from 12 African countries and will expand to a total of 38 games, up from 26.
“After a successful and historic launch last spring, we are thrilled to be able to grow the BAL’s footprint in our second season,” said BAL president Amadou Gallo Fall. “Through this expanded competition format, we will bring more games to more countries across the continent, allowing new and returning fans to experience the excitement of this world-class league up close and in person.”
New Fortress Energy (NFE), Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Nike, Jordan Brand and Wilson will return as BAL Foundational Partners. The league’s commercial partners include Flutterwave and Hennessy.Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the inaugural season was staged as a two-week quarantined tournament in Kigali.
