Barcelona-Pyrenees 2030 Winter Olympics ‘could generate €1bn’ for Catalonia

A Catalan government official has claimed that staging the 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Barcelona and the Pyrenees could generate more than €1bn ($1.14bn) for the region.

Ricard Font i Hereu, secretary-general of the department of the vice presidency of the Generalitat de Catalunya, told Catalunya Ràdio that hosting the event could bring huge benefits to the local economy. “How much is 15 days of publicity – and seven years of talking – worth for a territory at a global level?” he asked.
