The International Roller Sports Federation (FIRS) has announced that Barcelona and Lima will compete to host the inaugural edition of its Roller Games World Championships in 2017.
Following the deadline for submission of bid applications on October 31, FIRS has said the Peruvian capital and the Spanish city will progress to the latter stages of the process.
The 2017 World Championships will mark the first time that all roller sports disciplines will be centralised in one major event. FIRS will decide upon the host city at its assembly meeting in Rome, Italy on February 21.
FIRS president Sabatino Aracu said: “The distinguished participation of Barcelona and Lima is proof that the entire sports world is finally increasing the awareness of the technical value and image of roller sports, which, after the intense and fruitful preparatory work prepared by FIRS over these years, has attended the Youth Olympics of Nanjing 2014 as showcasing discipline and from 2017 it will also be part of the University Games.”
