French media group Les Éditions P. Amaury has suffered defeat in a trademark battle concerning its Ballon d’Or property, the annual award handed out to the world’s top male footballer.

The Ballon d’Or, which is organised by Amaury publication France Football, has been at the centre of a battle over its brand after UK company Golden Balls in 2017 filed an application with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) for revocation of the mark on the basis of non-use, pursuant to the European Union trademark regulation.
