The European Olympic Committees (EOC) has announced that Baku will host the 2019 summer edition of multi-sport event the European Youth Olympic Festival.
The announcement was made by acting EOC president Janez Kojicancic at a press conference in the Azeri capital. Baku hosted the inaugural edition of the EOC’s European Games event in 2015.
Kojicancic said, according to Azeri state news agency AZERTAC: “The 2019 European Youth Olympic Festival will be held in Baku. Up to 4,000 athletes from 50 European countries will participate in the festival.”
The agreement is set to be formally signed at a meeting of the EOC Executive Committee on January 26. The summer Youth Olympic Festival is held on a biannual basis with the Hungarian city of Gyor set to stage this year’s edition from July 22-30.
The 2015 Festival took place in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi.
