Major League Soccer team Atlanta United has revealed it will open the upper level at Mercedes-Benz Stadium for at least six games in the 2020 season.
The games are: FC Cincinnati (March 7), Philadelphia Union (June 20), Seattle Sounders FC (July 12), New York City FC (August 1), LAFC (August 16) and Columbus Crew SC (September 26). The team is offering a package of tickets to the six games.
Atlanta United has drawn crowds of over 70,000 several times when it has opened the top level of the 71,000-capacity Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which is also home to the National Football League’s Atlanta Falcons. For most games, the capacity is lowered to 42,500, which is designed to make the stadium both louder and more intimate.
Still, the club by far led MLS in attendance in 2019 with an average home draw of 52,510, and has paced the league in this category in each of its three seasons of existence.
In November, Atlanta United’s parent company AMB Sports and Entertainment bought a minority stake in Scottish Premiership club Aberdeen FC.
