Athens has been awarded hosting rights to the 2018 Final Four of the Basketball Champions League.
The Final Four of the European club competition will be held from May 4-6 at the Greek capital’s 18,000-seat OAKA Olympic Indoor Hall, the regular home court of qualified team AEK.
The other competitors in this year’s Final Four will be French LNB Pro A team AS Monaco, German Basketball Bundesliga outfit MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg and Spanish Liga ACB club UCAM Murcia.
Patrick Comninos, chief executive of the Basketball Champions League, said: “We have witnessed the fervent enthusiasm of the club to organise this historical event and the passionate support of the local community.
“We are all thrilled to have the opportunity to award this Final Four to such an impressive environment, where the participation of four clubs that are currently ranked in top positions in four of the most competitive leagues guarantees a unique weekend for basketball fans across Europe.”
The inaugural Champions League Final Four was held in the Spanish city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna last year, with host club Iberostar Tenerife emerging victorious.
