Airbnb follows Rio 2016 deal with Copa America partnership

Online home-rental marketplace Airbnb has secured its latest partnership with a major sports event by agreeing a deal with organisers of the Copa America national team football tournament, which takes place in Chile later this year.

The 2015 Copa America will be held from June 11 to July 4. As the official accommodation supplier, Airbnb will promote adverts for accommodation in Antofagasta, La Serena, Viña del Mar, Valparaíso, Santiago, Rancagua, Concepción and Temuco – the eight host cities.

The US firm will launch a dedicated site for Chile 2015, while it will also be able to utilise the Copa America name and brand for marketing purposes.

Jordi Torres Mallol, Airbnb’s country manager for Chile, said: “Airbnb is redefining the experience of traveling. We are confident that our hosts will open the doors of their homes to sports fans who want to know Chile and have the experience of living like a local, along with following their favourite teams across the country.”

Airbnb was last week confirmed as the official alternative accommodation services supplier for the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games – an agreement that will be a first in the history of the multi-sport showpieces.

Airbnb will provide around 20,000 accommodation options to sports fans in the Brazilian city in a bid to address its difficulties in developing the necessary infrastructure for this sector.
