The Indonesian football association (PSSI), along with Fifa and the Asian Football Confederation, have launched a task force to improve stadium safety in the Southeast Asian country after the disaster that killed at least 131 people earlier this month at a domestic Liga 1 match.
The incident has raised questions over Indonesia’s suitability to host international football tournaments. The country is set to host next year’s Fifa Under-20 World Cup and is one of three countries bidding for the hosting rights to the the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.
