Fanatics' aggressive entry into the lucrative United States trading cards industry has taken another victim with Alex Rodriguez's blank-check firm Slam Corp. reportedly ending $3bn merger talks with leading collectables company Panini.

After securing Major League Baseball card rights from The Topps Co., sports merchandising company Fanatics has gained both National Football League and National Basketball Association card rights from Panini.
