The goal of each person enrolled in our program is to begin their journey towards a career in the sport industry. We achieve this by supporting the students academically, professionally and personally.
Our faculty and staff are highly accessible and dedicated to student success inside and outside the classroom.
Our alumni are highly engaged with students from the moment they step on campus, offering guidance and resources.
Our network of industry connections are frequent contributors to the student experience, sharing their insight to prepare this generation to lead in an ever-changing sport landscape.
The bonds created on-campus extend well beyond graduation. We work hard to stay connected to our graduates and believe the relationships created at VCU grow stronger as our alumni progress in their careers.
Students can earn a Master’s in Sport Leadership in 12 months by enrolling in our full-time on campus program.
We also offer a Dual Degree program where students can earn both a Master’s in Sport Leadership and a Master’s in Business Administration over 24 months through a partnership with our university’s acclaimed School of Business.
For existing sport professionals, our Distance Learning program is an online curriculum that allows students to work towards their master’s degree part-time.
Recognizing the growing cost of higher education, our students also benefit from financial assistance. More than 95% of incoming students receive partial funding through scholarships and paid graduate assistantships.
As we celebrate our 25th Anniversary, we reaffirm the vision on which we were founded:
Establish a program that combines innovative and practical instruction with hands-on experiences.
The Center for Sport Leadership at VCU has alumni working in all areas of the sport industry including the NFL, NBA, MLB, NASCAR, and more than 50 Division 1 college athletic departments across the country.
Among our core values is Global Mindedness. Sport connects people around the world and our students have multiple opportunities to study abroad. Our most recent European Model of Sport trip covered Italy, Switzerland and Germany, and featured tours of AC Milan, World Cycling Center, celebrated Formula 1 circuit Autodromo Nazionale Monza, and FIFA Headquarters.
The Real Madrid Experience, a five week residency in Spain, allows students to take courses at Escuela Universitaria Real Madrid and intern with Real Madrid Next, the innovation department of the Real Madrid C.F.
In addition, the Center for Sport Leadership has a strong partnership with the U.S. Department of State’s Sports Diplomacy Division. Led by Executive Director Carrie LeCrom, Ph.D., we conduct sport for social change exchanges with athletes and coaches in countries such as China, South Africa, India, Tajikistan, Ghana and Rwanda, using sport as the vehicle to build cultural understanding and create social change.
At the end of the day, the VCU Center for Sport Leadership is about opportunity:
An opportunity to learn.
An opportunity to grow.
An opportunity to thrive.
Those opportunities are waiting for you.
