Towards the Connected Stadium

When the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York opened in September 2012 it offered spectators a high-tech experience unparalleled at a sports venue. The stadium, home of NBA basketball team the Brooklyn Nets, and from 2015-16 also home of NHL ice hockey team the New York Islanders, is a multi-purpose indoor 19,000-seat arena, connected with Wi-Fi and 4G LTE networks, 8,000 square feet of LED signage, and a 360-degree LED board. Having downloaded a free stadium app, fans are able to use their smartphones to watch the game from different camera angles, including from a camera on top of the basketball hoop; to rewind and play back the footage; to send messages to the stadium big screen; to order food, drink or team merchandise from their seat; and even to upgrade their seat position...
