Fox International Channels, 21st Century Fox’s international multi-media business, has agreed a multi-year, international rights deal for motor racing’s new Formula E Championship across the Fox Sports suite of channels.
As well as full US broadcast exclusivity across the Fox networks, including new pay-television sports channel Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports has acquired exclusive and non-exclusive rights in more than 80 territories.
These territories include Canada, Latin America/Caribbean, Netherlands, Italy, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, Australia, key Asian territories and other areas of Asia, India and Africa.
The deal, across all territories, includes exclusive online and non-exclusive mobile rights.
Alejandro Agag, chief executive of championship promoter Formula E Holdings, said: “This global broadcasting deal will bring our Championship to nearly 90 countries and a potential 180 million households worldwide, giving our partners, our teams, and our team’s partners a platform to visualise the association to the values of this competition.”
Formula E, the world’s first fully-electric car racing series, will debut in September 2014. The championship’s 10-race calendar includes two events in Los Angeles and Miami and last month leading IndyCar outfit Andretti Autosport become the first US team to join the series.
