WBSC awards rights in Asia for Japan’s U-15 World Cup

The World Baseball Softball Confederation has awarded rights to its 2016 Youth U-15 Baseball World Cup to broadcasters across Asia.

Japanese cable and satellite television network J Sports has secured host and exclusive broadcast rights in Japan to the youth-level national team tournament, which will take place from July 29 to August 3 in Iwaki, Japan.

The WBSC has also signed exclusive broadcast rights deals with broadcasters in Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, South Korea and Taiwan.

South Korean commercial broadcaster SBS has picked up rights across all platforms, including mobile, online and television.

Indonesian satellite television service provider Indovision TV acquired rights in the country, while pay-television broadcaster Astro secured exclusive broadcast rights in Malaysia.

Taiwanese cable-television sports broadcaster Videoland took rights across television and online, while pay-television broadcaster Skynet picked up broadcast rights in Myanmar.

Meanwhile, the WBSC has said it will stream live coverage of the event free-of-charge via its official channel on video-sharing platform YouTube.

The online feed, which excludes territories covered by WBSC broadcast partners, will be available for 26 of the 39 games.
