Santos extends deal with shirt sponsor

Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A football club Santos has extended its shirt sponsorship deal with Brazilian conglomerate Grupo Algar, according to multiple reports.

The ESPN.com.br website reported that Algar has agreed a new two-year deal with Santos covering the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Algar’s branding featured on the chest and back bar areas of the club’s playing shirts during the 2016 season.

Algar initially partnered with Santos for the conclusion of the 2015 season before committing to the club for the 2016 campaign back in February. As part of its agreement with Santos, Algar was granted naming rights to the club’s press room and benefited from brand exposure during press conferences.

Santos is also said to be close to confirming an extension of its partnership with government-owned bank Caixa Economica Federal, which serves as the club’s main shirt sponsor.

Santos partnered with Caixa in October. The agreement ran until the end of the 2016 campaign, although the club confirmed at the time that negotiations over a contract extension were already underway.
