Premier League considers new sponsorship model

The English Premier League is reported to be considering dropping its current long-term title sponsorship model when banking group Barclays’ deal expires at the end of the 2015-16 season, according to UK pay-television broadcaster Sky.

The EPL last week held talks with the league’s 20 clubs over the possibility of moving to a ‘partnership model’, under which alliances would be made with various brands across a number of industries.

Some clubs are said to be in favour of such a move as it would enable them to earn money from a number of different deals.

The EPL is still keeping its options open by holding discussions with possible title sponsors, with Barclays having already confirmed it will not renew its current deal. Drinks giant Diageo is one company reported to be in talks with the league over a possible tie-up with its Guinness brand.
