Petronas stays on track with Malaysian Grand Prix

Malaysian oil and gas company Petronas has extended its title sponsorship of the country’s Formula One grand prix for the next three years.

The deal comes alongside the Sepang International Circuit renewing its hosting agreement for the event for the same 2016 to 2018 period. Petronas has supported the race since it was first held in 1999.

Petronas has an established presence within Formula One and is the title sponsor of reigning world champion Mercedes having renewed its partnership with the team last year.

Terms of May’s deal were not disclosed, but the two parties said the agreement paved the way for a decade of partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Petronas. The partnership between Mercedes and Petronas dates back to 2010, when the works team of the German automotive giant joined the F1 grid for the first time since 1955.

Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel secured his first win since signing for Ferrari at Sunday’s 2015 Malaysian Grand Prix.
