Now BeIN Sports vows to clamp down on Vine posts

French pay-television broadcaster beIN Sports has followed the English Premier League in vowing to clamp down on footage of goals from its football matches being shown online through video-sharing service Vine.

Laurent de Camas, beIN Sports’ director of marketing and business development, told French daily newspaper L’Equipe that the broadcaster intends to “act… to end this quickly.”

He added that media platforms that share the Vine posts without having obtained the necessary copyright are “accomplices” and “complicit in this phenomenon.”

He also highlighted the potential “commercial damage” the posts can have on a broadcast rights-holder, with the potential for “a loss of subscription sign-ups for the channel.”
