Eleven chief plays down Premier League rights bid

Andrea Radrizzani has said his new pay-television sports channel Eleven Sports Network will not be able to compete for the rights in Singapore to football’s English Premier League.

“I don't see any way to compete for the EPL rights in Singapore at the current value, which can't justify a healthy business to anyone with the pay-television subscribers in Singapore,” Radrizzani told the Straits Times newspaper.

Singaporean telecommunications company Singtel will carry the new channel, while talks are ongoing regarding a potential deal with national pay-television broadcaster StarHub.

Singtel acquired rights for the league in a three-season deal, from 2013-14 to 2015-16.
