Centauro, the largest sporting goods retailer in Latin America, has agreed a deal to mark its first entry into the sponsorship of a national football tournament in Brazil. The 2012 Copa do Brasil will take place between March 7 and July 25 and will see the participation of 64 teams from across 26 states. The champion will win the right to represent Brazil in the Copa Libertadores.
Centauro has 149 stores throughout Brazil and Ana Paula Grimaldi Roso, the company’s marketing director, stated: “For Centauro, brand presence in a tournament such as the Copa Kia do Brasil 2012, which brings together clubs and fans throughout Brazil, confirms our mission to democratise and to encourage sports. We are increasingly supporting the Brazilian passion for sports.”
Vasco da Gama won the 2011 Copa do Brasil after a dramatic two-legged final against Coritiba. The final finished 3-3, but the Rio de Janeiro outfit won on away goals.
