Intersport will sponsor the Viessmann World Cup and will be the presenting sponsor of the Viessmann Team Relay World Cup through to the conclusion of the 2011-12 season. The agreement between the international federation and Intersport was brokered by Infront Sports & Media, which first linked up with the FIL in 1999.
“We are really pleased to have an additional agreement in place with such an important partner that works well alongside our official sponsors including Viessmann and Eberspacher,” FIL president Josef Fendt said. “As an international sports association we consider the commitment of Intersport – the worldwide leading sports retailer, as an extremely appealing match for the sport of luge.” Infront’s executive director of winter sports, Bruno Marty, added: “The involvement of Intersport is an important achievement for the sport as Infront continues working to elevate the profile and attractiveness of the FIL properties for major corporate brands.”
The official FIL calendar for the 2011-12 campaign got underway on Saturday and will include a total of nine World Cup races as well as the FIL World Championships, which will take place on February 11-12 in Altenberg, Germany. German state broadcasters ARD and ZDF will cover the events while Eurosport will provide television coverage on a pan-European basis.
