Sport business heavyweights in contention for honour

The founding fathers of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Lalit Modi and IMG’s Andrew Wildblood, are among the nominees in contention for the Outstanding Contribution award at next week’s International Sports Event Management Conference.

Modi and Wildblood are in contention for the award along with a high-powered group including Jerry Anderson of Populous and Salman Sarwar, chairman of the organising committee for the 2011 Cricket World Cup.

Matt Kamienski, executive director of the 2011 Presidents Cup in Melbourne, Helmut Spahn, executive director of the International Centre for Sports Security (ICSS) and FIFA president Sepp Blatter are also vying for the honour. Previous winners have included Formula One’s commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone and the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) head of Olympic Games, Gilbert Felli.

The awards will be presented during a gala dinner at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in London, which hosts the conference on October 12 and 13.
