Eurosport Asia-Pacific HD has been introduced, expanding a portfolio of platforms in the region that already includes Eurosport Asia-Pacific and Eurosportnews, with the two existing channels already distributed in 19 countries and territories. TFN Media and Kbro in Chinese Taipei and SkyLife have signed up to carry the new HD channel from the outset, with Eurosport stating that more platforms will follow suit by the end of 2011.
The Eurosport Asia-Pacific HD channel will be a near simulcast of the current standard definition channel, with coverage of the Tour de France, Women’s Tennis Association, International Association of Athletics Federations Diamond League, World Touring Car Championships and more. Eurosport launched its first HD channel in Europe in 2008, and the channel is now available in 43 countries and 20 languages. In 2009, Eurosport 2 HD was launched and the channel is now available in 22 European countries.
“Sport as a genre is ideally suited for high definition broadcasting,” said Eurosport’s Asia-Pacific managing director, Arjan Hoekstra. “It enhances the viewer experience, and heightens the emotion and action that is synonymous with sport. Eurosport Asia-Pacific has always been committed to offering our viewers choice, by broadcasting a wide variety of over 60 sports, and focusing on live coverage. Now our viewers have the added option of watching these sports with superior picture and sound quality, as nowhere is the value of HD more apparent than in sports.”
