In a deal brokered by Triumph Media Group, Intersport’s name will be attached to the ETTU’s three remaining major events in 2011 – the European Table Tennis Championships in Gdansk-Sopot, Poland, the Euro-Asia Series in Minsk, Belarus, and the European SuperCup in Ekaterinburg, Russia.
“The ETTU are delighted to welcome such a prestigious global brand as Intersport as our new title sponsor and this is testament to the ever growing popularity of our sport,” said ETTU president Stefano Bosi. “We look forward to developing an excellent long-term relationship with Intersport.”
Intersport International CEO Franz Julen added: “Table tennis is a dynamic and authentic sport with an ever increasing popularity. Intersport stands for expert authority, authenticity, international expansion and passion for sport. It is our message: that sport is for everyone and it is our mission to bring sport to the people.”
The deal represents the second major sponsorship deal unveiled by Intersport in the space of a week. Last week, Intersport was recruited as a new partner of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague basketball tournament for the next two seasons. The agreement, which will run through to June 2013, expanded a relationship between Euroleague Basketball and the global sporting goods retailer. The company already sponsors various events in international football, skiing, track and field, handball and hockey.
