TSN penned the contract extension with the R&A, the operator of the oldest Major golf tournament in the world. This year's edition of the event is currently taking place at Sandwich in Kent on the south-eastern coast of the United Kingdom. The agreement comprises all French-language broadcast rights for TSN's sister channel RDS and live coverage via TSN.ca.
TSN is supplementing its live TV coverage with live streaming of every shot from holes 14, 15 and 16 for all four rounds on TSN.ca. The website is also offering daily highlights, interviews and other support programming.
The announcement of the deal has come just days after TSN secured a 10-year contract to air another historic British sporting event, the Wimbledon Tennis Championships. TSN has not disclosed the financial details of the two contracts.
"With its rich history, challenging conditions and some of the most renowned links courses in the world, The Open Championship is definitely one of the highlights of the year for golf fans," said TSN's vice-president of programming, Shawn Redmond. "We are delighted to extend our relationship with The R&A and give fans even more memorable moments from golf's oldest major for the next six years."
