The venue, which also hosted last year's Race of Champions, has stepped in to replace Frankfurt's Commerzbank-Arena, the home of German football club Eintracht Frankfurt. Last month, organisers announced they would need to find an alternative host venue in Germany after Frankfurt’s fixture list confirmed a clash of dates with the motorsport event.
“We had a successful event at the ESPRIT Arena last year and we look forward to working alongside the same people again,” said Race of Champions organiser Fredrik Johnsson. “While we are happy to be heading back, we want to apologise again to all the race fans who made plans to join us in Frankfurt.”
Johnsson added: “We were contacted by a number of great venues, but Dusseldorf is the closest alternative and we hope our special offer will make up for some of the disappointment. With Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and the other great champions, the event is sure to thrill everyone who makes it to Dusseldorf in December."
The Race of Champions brings together the world’s greatest drivers from all motorsport disciplines, including Formula One, world rally, touring cars, Le Mans and NASCAR. In recent years the Race of Champions has visited the Stade de France in Paris, London’s Wembley Stadium and Beijing’s ‘Bird’s Nest’ Olympic Stadium as well as Dusseldorf.
