Shinnecock, which hosted the second US Open in 1896 and last staged the major in 2004, will be the site of the 118th edition of the tournament. Shinnecock has also hosted the event in 1986, 1995 and 2004.
“We are thrilled that our national championship will return to one of our country's most-storied venues,” USGA president Jim Hyler told ESPN. “We are confident that Shinnecock Hills will provide a true challenge for the world's premier players, as it has for more than a century.”
Pebble Beach has already been awarded the 2019 edition of the tournament, while next year's US Open will take place at Olympic Club in San Francisco followed by Merion Golf Club near Philadelphia in 2013 and Pinehurst in North Carolina in 2014.
The major will then be staged at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington, in 2015, followed by Oakmont in 2016 and Erin Hills in Wisconsin the following year. It will be the first time Chambers Bay and Erin Hills have staged the event. This year’s US Open will start later today at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland.
