USTA appoints IMG Media

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has appointed IMG Media to act as the official television consultant to the US Open for a number of territories across the globe.

IMG Media, a division of IMG Worldwide, has replaced Lagardère as the USTA’s TV rights negotiations representative in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Asia (excluding Japan) and the Middle East. The appointment covers the four-year period from 2013-16, with the US Open taking place at Flushing Meadows in New York every August-September.

“We selected IMG Media based on the breadth of experience and depth of relationships in key markets around the globe,” said Harlan Stone, chief business and marketing officer of the USTA.

The 2010 US Open was seen in more than 180 countries and received more than 40,000 hours of national and international television coverage. IMG Media operates from more than 30 offices worldwide and has daily exchanges with over 4,000 key media contacts.

The USTA has stated that it will work with Lagardère through to the end of this year on the current agreement as well as “a number of additional outside projects”.
