Eircom unveiled as new Gaelic Football sponsor

Eircom has replaced telecommunications rival Vodafone as the new lead sponsor of the Gaelic Athletic Association’s (GAA) All-Ireland Football Championship.

The initial agreement will run for three years with the option of extending the deal. Although financial details have not been disclosed, it has been reported that the arrangement is worth at least Eur3.6 million to the GAA, which operates the hugely popular domestic competition in Ireland.

“It is another major boost, not only to the GAA Football Championship, but to the association as a whole, that we are entering into an exciting partnership with a company possessing a profile and pedigree such as Eircom's as the start of this year's competition comes into sharp focus,” said GAA president Christy Cooney.

“Like us, Eircom reaches into communities all over Ireland and we are enthused about the prospect of working with our new partners in an imaginative and proactive way as part of our ongoing efforts to generate even more interest in our games,” Cooney added.

The marketing campaign is expected to focus on how Eircom's technology can enrich the fans' enjoyment of the GAA’s leading Gaelic football competition.
