UEFA announced on Tuesday that Sky Deutschland will continue as its pay-TV partner for the Champions League, with the network also being awarded media rights for the 2012-15 Europa League. ZDF has secured the rights to broadcast live coverage of one Champions League game per match week including the Saturday final and the UEFA Super Cup.
Sky Deutschland has acquired the right to broadcast all Champions League matches on a live and delayed basis as well as the rights for Tuesday and Wednesday highlights programmes. In addition, Sky Deutschland’s successful acquisition of the Europa League encompasses all matches on a live and delayed basis, as well as highlights. Germany’s Europa League rights for a live match window and a highlights programme on a free-to-air channel are still available.
Stating that it “valued” Sat.1’s continued commitment through to the end of the 2011-12 season, UEFA said: “The ZDF deal will ensure great access to the competition for football fans throughout the country. UEFA is also pleased to announce the incumbent pay television operator Sky Deutschland as its partner through to 2015 for both competitions.”
UEFA added: “Sky Deutschland’s commitment to high quality production as well as comprehensive match night coverage continues to be a key element of European football coverage in Germany.”
