Seven has signed a “multi-year” agreement with The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club for the free-to-air broadcast TV rights. Channel Nine announced last July that it would not be renewing its coverage deal for the London tournament.
Seven will be able to pick the “best two” matches of the day up to and including the quarter-finals, and will then enjoy exclusive coverage of the semi-finals and finals.
“This agreement allows sports fans across Australia to enjoy Seven’s creative approach to bringing alive the stories and the colour of the Championships, while the development of multimedia and wireless platforms will provide viewers with an improved choice of how to access all the on and off court action and drama,” said Mick Desmond, commercial director of The All England Club.
Seven already broadcasts the Australian Open, which takes place every year in Melbourne, and the network is in talks with the country’s Minister for Communications Stephen Conroy over plans to air matches on its two multi-channels.
