The commission, led by Jean-Claude Killy, is making its first trip to Sochi since October, and the first visit since Krasnaya Polyana hosted its first international Alpine skiing events last month. The International Ski Federation (FIS) Europa Cup competitions for men and women were staged at the mountain resort in February.
Krasnaya Polyana will host all of the snow and sliding disciplines at the Olympics in just under three years’ time.
“The Commission will be in the Black Sea resort for the next three days, and will combine technical meetings with visits to some of the venue sites, in order to see the progress being made for the Games,” stated the IOC.
More than 200 sports facilities are to be built in Sochi for the 2014 Winter Games with the cost of building the venues and infrastructure estimated at more than US$30 billion.
