Red Bull unveils major Infiniti deal

Nissan-owned automotive brand Infiniti has sealed a major two-year partnership deal with Red Bull Racing, the defending champion of the Formula One World Championship constructor and driver titles.

The luxury brand’s name and logo will feature heavily on the cars and overalls of the drivers over the next two seasons, with the deal thought to be worth a total of more than £20 million. The agreement was struck on the back of Nissan's relationship with Renault, which currently supplies engines to Red Bull. The two major manufacturers also own a considerable stake in each other's company. “There are two elements to this relationship, with the first being a marketing benefit where we will be working closely with Infiniti to create more awareness for their brand,” said Red Bull team principal Christian Horner. “But the more interesting and important aspect for Red Bull, moving forward strategically, is that as an independent team competing against the likes of Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes, the depth of technical resource they have is something we've not enjoyed,” he added. “So this relationship opens those doors within Infiniti and Nissan, particularly as future technologies such as KERS (kinetic energy recovery system) become more dominant in Formula One.” Through its Infiniti brand, Nissan is the first Japanese manufacturer to enter F1 since Toyota in 2002.
