Digital+ picks up Spanish pay-TV Champions League rights

Digital+ will replace Mediapro-owned GolTV as UEFA’s pay-TV Champions League broadcaster in Spain from 2012, it has been confirmed.

Digital+ has acquired the rights to live and delayed action from all of the competition's matches, with the exception of the Tuesday first-match pick. Under the terms of the three-year deal, the digital satellite platform will also air highlights programmes on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

The rights will be additionally exploited via Digital+ websites and via the broadcaster's mobile portal. The remaining rights on offer in Spain include live coverage of the Tuesday first-match pick, the Champions League Final and the UEFA Super Cup along with the non-exclusive Tuesday and Wednesday highlights programmes.

"Digital+ has shown a strong commitment to winning the UEFA Champions League media rights," said Guy-Laurent Epstein, the marketing director of UEFA Events SA, the commercial arm of European football's governing body.

“They have proposed very extensive programming commitments on all platforms allowing fans to enjoy great coverage of the competition on multiple devices,” Epstein added. “We are happy to welcome Digital+ back into the UEFA Champions League family.”
