The co-operation will promote the EuroBasket Men and Women tournaments in 2011 and 2013 and also see referee and coaching clinics staged in Europe, amongst other projects and development programs. In addition, both the NBA and FIBA Europe will use locally targeted online content to promote the sport.
“This partnership builds on our close ties with FIBA Europe,” said Sophie Goldschmidt, senior vice-president of NBA Europe. “By sharing experience and knowledge we will be combining our efforts to help further build the sport and promote it to an even wider audience.”
FIBA Europe secretary general Nar Zanolin added: “Increasing awareness for EuroBasket and developing training programs for coaches and referees are activities at the core of the FIBA Europe mission statement.”
Zanolin added: “A partnership with the NBA in these areas is the natural evolution of constant efforts on both sides to further improve our practices and benefit from each other's accumulated knowledge.” EuroBasket 2011 will take place in Lithuania from August 31 to September 18.
