CBS extends PGA Championship carriage deal

CBS has extended its agreement to broadcast the PGA Championship through to 2019.

CBS has aired the golf season’s final Major since 1991, and the US network’s new eight-year contract with the PGA of America includes a revenue-sharing element.

“From an advertiser standpoint and sponsor standpoint, it’s as healthy as I’ve ever seen it. If it wasn’t, we wouldn’t have done a long-term deal,” CBS Sports president Sean McManus told The Associated Press.

However, McManus added that the network used conservative estimates in predicting the ratings the tournament would attract in coming years, particularly given the uncertainty over Tiger Woods’ future success.

“This is going to be a good deal for CBS and, I believe, for the PGA of America also, whether or not (Woods) plays well again,” he said.
