The players have all been charged with various offences under Article 2 of the International Cricket Council’s anti-corruption code, relating to alleged activity surrounding Pakistan's Test match against England at Lord's in August. All three have all denied any wrongdoing, but have been provisionally suspended since the allegations emerged in the days following the Test.
The cricketing world was rocked by the News of the World story, which claimed that businessman Mazhar Majeed had accepted £150,000 to arrange for Butt, Asif and Amir to deliberately bowl no-balls during the fourth Test at Lord's.
On Thursday, Butt, Amir and Asif appeared before a three-man committee made up of Michael Beloff QC, South African Justice Albie Sachs and Sharad Rao, a Kenyan member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The tribunal is scheduled to sit until January 11, when a verdict and possible sanctions could be announced.
