In making the announcement, PEMRA also warned other broadcasters within the country to refrain from carrying action from the competition, which will take place in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka from February 19 to April 2.
“Distribution of World Cup 2011 matches through any satellite TV channel, other than Geo Super, shall invoke strict legal action under PEMRA ordinance and rules/regulations made there under, for infringement of legal rights acquired,” PEMRA stated.
“Therefore, Geo Super will be the only channel accessible through cable that will be showing the World Cup 2011 matches in Pakistan.” There are more than 2,500 cable operators in the Pakistan, which was originally a designated host of the event before security fears prompted a rethink.
Geo Super’s main sport is cricket, but the platform also carries hockey, boxing, football, tennis, snooker and racing action.
