Sportingbet.com puts its chips on Champion Chase

Online bookmaker Sportingbet.com has replaced Seasons Holidays as the title sponsor of the Queen Mother Champion Chase.

Sportingbet.com will support the horse race until at least 2015, with the first edition coming on March 16, the second day of the Cheltenham Festival. Seasons Holidays signed up as the first backer of the two-mile showpiece in 2007.

“This is great news for us at Cheltenham and for jump racing at a commercially challenging time,” said Edward Gillespie, managing director of the Cheltenham Festival.

“Sportingbet is an existing sponsor at Cheltenham and elsewhere and the company has already demonstrated its appetite for our sport at all levels, including an imaginative sponsorship of the conditional jockeys' championship.”

Andrew McIver, group chief executive of Sportingbet, added: “We have been looking for an exciting partnership to add to our current racing sponsorship commitments and to support our ongoing voluntary levy contribution.”

McIver continued: “Our sponsorship of the Sportingbet.com Queen Mother Champion Chase will enable us to showcase our brand to a larger audience, especially given the profile of the Cheltenham Festival in the wider sporting world.”
